In late 2017 Michael & Brigitte Barker decided to buy and restore this iconic building in the centre of Geraldine. To welcome guests from all around the world to stay and enjoy the old Vicarage, the charming town and the rural hinterland. Over six generations, the Barker family have had many connections with the 18 Vicars of Geraldine.
The Vicarage Geraldine is easy to find, right in the centre of Geraldine. On one side is the Old Post Office which is now a New Zealand made clothing boutique & several art galleries. On the other side is St Mary’s Anglican Church. Behind is the Barker’s of Geraldine Foodstore & Eatery and the Waihi Riverside walk. On the other side of Talbot St is the Four Peaks Plaza, comprising Talbot Forest Cheese, specialty shops, an art gallery, a bakery, and several cafes.

Over six generations, the Barker family have had many connections with the 18 Vicars of Geraldine.
The Barker family business making jams and preserves was established and still thrives on their farm just outside Geraldine. Michael is the fifth generation of Barker’s to own land in the Geraldine area but was the first to never farm it. His parents founded a cottage industry called Barker’s Wines in 1969 and developed a range of fruit wines. You are invited to visit the Barker’s Wines exhibit, and other interesting local exhibits in the Geraldine Museum, just 80 metres from the Vicarage, on Cox St.
The Barker’s business grew and it no longer makes fruit wines but fruits are the hero of a range of premium Jams, Chutneys, Relishes, Sauces, Dressings & Vinaigrettes, Compotes, Fruit Pastes and Fruit Syrups. Barker’s is now the leading NZ manufacturer of Fruit Syrups, Chutneys and Fruit Fillings for the baking industry. Australian visitors may recognise some of these Barker’s products which are now available in Australian supermarkets. Michael was the Chief Executive and is now Chairman of Barker Fruit Processors which is the town’s largest employer. If you look in the fridge in your room you will hopefully find a jar of jam or sauce, proudly labelled ‘Barker’s of Geraldine.’
The Vicarage Geraldine has 6 deluxe rooms. All rooms are completely refurbished in a contemporary style that is sympathetic to the building’s distinguished heritage. Feature wallpaper behind the bed contrasts with the simple off-white decor, plaster cornices, ceiling rose and an elegant chandelier. Superking beds, quality cotton linen, feather duvets and ensuite bathrooms.
The two shared sitting rooms, courtyard and the kitchenette give space to relax and prepare meals.
Three rooms are downstairs with an outside table and chairs on a small terrace. Three rooms are upstairs with great views.
One downstairs room is a wheelchair friendly Accessible Room (there is no lift)
