Dangerous Skies continues the story through the Second World War, presenting rare aircraft, personal treasures and powerful human stories. Together the exhibitions offer a remarkable journey through two defining eras of aviation.

Home to two exhibitions, the original Knights of the Sky is film director Sir Peter Jackson’s own collection of WW1 aircraft and artifacts. The story of aviation in the Great War is brought to life in sensational sets by WingNut Films, some recreating actual incidents and featuring mannequins by Wētā Workshop. The rare memorabilia are worthy of any national collection and range from beautifully crafted ‘trench art’ through to personal items belonging to the famous Red Baron himself.
Dangerous Skies opened in December 2016 and over the years has brought new and inspirational stories of pilots and their flying machines to life, once again in movie-like scenes. Currently on display is a De Havilland Mosquito, one of the most iconic fighters of WW2, a P-40 Kittyhawk, and the most famous fighter of them all, the mighty Spitfire, which is not only original but still flies! In addition, the popular Stalingrad Experience is an immersive experience that is both entertaining and chillingly thought-provoking.
