Dunedin is a well preserved Victorian sea port and university city with excellent museums and galleries and the famed wildlife of the Otago Peninsula. The historic precinct dates from early European settlement and gold-rush days.
The coastlines and beaches to the south offer very cold waters but magnificent landscapes and some of New Zealand’s best bird and marine life. The Otago Peninsula is a long convoluted ridge of land with numerous and glorious hidden beaches and estuaries providing an excellent refuge for New Zealand wildlife. The world’s only mainland breeding colony for the Royal Albatross is located at the tip of the Otago Peninsula. You can also likely to see penguins, seals and sea lions.
